Description

Short answer: Moving from AppFolio to DoorLoop takes about 1 to 2 weeks on DoorLoop’s side for a straightforward migration. Export each report from AppFolio separately (Rent Roll, Tenant Directory, General Ledger), then upload using DoorLoop’s own spreadsheet templates. Only your current rent roll and active leases import automatically, so export your full AppFolio financial history before you cancel.

If AppFolio hiding its pricing behind a quote request (see our AppFolio Pricing Alternatives breakdown) is the last straw, here’s what actually moving your data looks like, based on both vendors’ own documentation.

Step 1: Export from AppFolio. AppFolio doesn’t have a single export-everything button. You’ll pull each report separately from the Reports menu. Open Rent Roll for your properties, units, tenants, lease terms, and rent amounts, exported as Excel. Open Tenant Directory, filter to the tenant statuses and property addresses you need, and export as CSV for contact and unit-assignment data. For financial history, General Ledger or Transaction Detail exports to Excel or CSV.

Step 2: Import into DoorLoop. DoorLoop’s Getting Started flow walks you through uploading your data, then reviewing it before onboarding finishes. Use DoorLoop’s own spreadsheet templates rather than uploading your raw AppFolio exports as-is, since the column structure won’t match. Expect roughly 1 to 2 weeks for DoorLoop’s side of a straightforward migration, longer if your ledger history is complex.

What does not transfer automatically: Same limitation as every migration in this category. DoorLoop’s own documentation is explicit that automated import covers your current rent roll and active leases only, not historical transactions, charges, payments, or past ledger data. Pulling your AppFolio General Ledger export first and keeping it on file, rather than assuming it will follow you into the new system, is the safer approach if you need that history later.

THE ACTUAL DECISION

Because AppFolio requires a 50-unit minimum and no longer publishes pricing at all, most landlords switching away from it are doing so specifically because they’ve outgrown needing (or never needed) that scale. If that’s you, DoorLoop’s transparent published pricing is the more direct comparison point. Budget 1 to 2 weeks for the actual data move, and export your full AppFolio financial history yourself before you cancel, since it won’t come across automatically.

Read the full DoorLoop Review and AppFolio Review, or see the full AppFolio Alternatives comparison if DoorLoop isn’t the right fit.
